The prize is part of the Industry Solutions Awards. NS won the prize for the digital twin that was made for Utrecht Central station. The 3D virtual view has been created to improve the comfort and safety of the station.
Every year, innovative IT projects using IoT are recognized with Industry Solutions Awards. NS Stations, part of NS that is responsible for the stations, won the prize for the best ‘smart buildings and smart cities’ IoT project. They received the award at the IoT Solutions World Congress. A total of four thousand applications were submitted and the digital twin of Utrecht Central Station became the winning project.
IoT project lauded
Jean Keultjes, digital lead at NS Stations, and Remco Bunder, product expert at NS Stations IT, received the award. Keultjes: “We are very pleased that the international jury has chosen us as the winner of this award from four thousand entries. When we were asked to present our project, we recognized that there was interest. The fact that we have now won is of course wonderful and a credit to several teams from NS Stations IT and our partner AMIS Conclusion!”
Utrecht Central’s digital twin has been developed to improve the comfort and safety of the station. The 3D model can also detect malfunctions, allowing for better anticipation within the context of the station. Real-time data from IoT sensors in the station feed the data flow. Data includes, for example, the status of lifts and escalators, as well as passenger flows at the station. The data feed was developed by AMIS Conclusion, NS’s implementation partner.
