Formitas AG has supported its client, MEWA Textil-Service SE & Co. Management OHG, in the digitalization of planning and construction processes, enabling the textile service provider to implement construction projects with greater flexibility and speed in the future. This comprehensive approach highlights the full potential of Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a central digital management tool.
As part of BIM consultancy and management, Formitas and Mewa collaboratively restructured the project execution framework. These efforts are now taking shape, with a new cleanroom laundry facility for Mewa under construction in Meißenheim, Baden-Württemberg, where a topping-out ceremony was held in July.
“The new facility meets all the requirements for a Gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council. According to our knowledge, this will be the first cleanroom laundry in Europe to aim for complete climate neutrality from the outset,” said Ulrich Schmidt, Head of Production & Logistics at Mewa.
Comprehensive Implementation of Digital Project Management
Since 2017, Formitas has been assisting MEWA Textil-Service SE & Co. Management OHG, a leading European company in the textile service industry. The new process management approach was first applied to the construction of three industrial buildings in Bottrop, Schwechat, and Meißenheim. All subsequent construction projects will now follow the principle of digital project management, utilizing current technologies such as digital twins and virtual and augmented reality. At the recent topping-out ceremony in Meißenheim, VR technology provided guests with illuminating insights, allowing them to experience a virtual tour of the future building.
Sustainable Operation with High Cleanliness Standards
The new cleanroom laundry facility, which will create 50 jobs, is part of Mewa’s expansion at the Meißenheim site. Mewa is investing approximately 17 million euros in the building, which will cover an area of around 1,700 square meters, located adjacent to the existing facilities. Scheduled to commence operations in the third quarter of 2025, the facility sets high standards for planning and execution. The cleanroom textiles processed here will be used in sensitive environments such as medical facilities, laboratories, and the electronics industry, requiring specialized decontamination and sterilization processes. Additionally, the building meets all the requirements for the Gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council.
