In a fascinating interaction between the virtual and the real world Microsoft and developer Inibuilds will launch a virtual version of the Antonov 225 in Microsoft Flight Simulator. The proceeds of this payware aircraft will be used to finance rebuilding the real one, which was destroyed a year ago during the Russian invasion.
Yesterday Jorg Neumann, Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, announced the launch of a virtual Antonov 225 on February 27th, the anniversary of the destruction of the world’s largest aircraft by the Russian military. The digital replica of the ‘Mriya’ is built by developer Inibuilds, and will not just serve as a preservation in the virtual world of this unique aircraft, but all the money which will be made by selling the aircraft to MSFS-users will be used to help finance the rebuilding of this piece of aviation heritage. During the launch the real captain of this aircraft, captain Antonov, explained this initiative in a video message.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a complete digital twin of the real world, based on map data, photogrammetry and AI.
